This proposal is aimed at developing and applying several neurofuzzy model building algorithms to a variety of problems identified by our industrial partners. These data modelling problems will focus our efforts on techniques which can reliably model complex, nonlinear processes and the related research into on-line learning will be applied to non-stationary systems which cannot be modelled off-line. One of the primary goals of this project is to develop a software toolset which can be used to integrate verbal, expert knowledge and numeric, data-driven information in a unified design package. This will allow immediate exploitation of our results by both industry and academia. The data provided by our industrial partners will allow the strengths and weaknesses of these techniques to be evaluated, and guidelines to be provided about where these algorithms are applicable. The programme will involve 2 universities: Brighton and Southampton, and four industrial companies: GEC, Lucas, Eurothern and Neural Computer Sciences. A number of data modelling problems have been outlined and Eurothern will be contributing a software toolset which will allow us to explore the possibility of developing embedded systems.
