Summary on Grant Application Form
This proposal aims to investigate the occurrence of charge-density waves in perovskite superconductors such as Ba1-xKxBiO3 and BapB1-XO3 and cuptrate superconductors such as La2-xBaxCuO4 and YBa2Cu3O7. We propose to undertake detailed high resolution x-ray scattering studies following our recent observation of a incommensurate charge-density wave induced supercell in Ba1-xKxBiO3. Such a study employing x-ray scattering and other techniques relies on the availability of large high quality single crystals that are only now being grown in a few centres world-wide. In addition to the study of CDWs we propose to continue our x-ray studies of incommensurate materials and thin-film superconductors.
