Summary on Grant Application Form
The recent invention at Southampton of a novel fibre acousto-optic modulator opens up attractive new possibilities for the construction, at low cost, of all-fibre optical switching networks with very high performance. The primary objective of the project is to build (to required specification) a reliable broad-band 16x16 re-routing witch, and to test its effectiveness in a real fibre-optic communications system.
