|
The aim of this research programme is to advance the understanding and technology of the wet process to enable it to be specified and used with confidence for repair in the United Kingdom. The main emphasis will be on mortars and small aggregate concretes (<5m3/hr), in some cases with mesh of fibre reinforcement. The wet process could replace a substantial amount of current dry-mix work and also significantly extend the use of sprayed concrete in repair work.The work to be carried out falls into six activities, with some iteration between them as the research balances the requirements of production and materials performance. The six activities are: (I) identifying a number of base mix formulations for different repair situations, (ii) studying the fresh concrete properties to achieve a balance between pumpability and sprayability, (iii) modifications/improvements to spraying equipment, (iv) determination and checking of hardened properties, and (vi) spraying field trials to test the process and materials under realistic field conditions.A principal output of the research will be the production of a Guideline Document covering equipment, application method, mix designs, specification, quality control and testing.
