Summary on Grant Application Form
A plasma tube is requested for the dedicated frequency-doubled argon laser used to produce fibre gratings, and a manufacturer's service/maintenance support contract to ensure continuous operation of the system. This system is utilised on three EPSRC projects addressing advanced applications of fibre grating technology. Key research areas include high complexity/high functionality gratings by multiple exposure, step-and-repeat techniques using holographic and phase mask exposures, applications to ultrafast pulse components and systems, and applications in novel laser and communication systems.
