The objectives of this project are to develop and utilise a low temperature sample cryostat for an existing Alternating Gradient Force Magnetometer. The development of the system is a difficult problem in cryogenic design which would result in the availability of an instrument of comparable specification to a SQUID magnetometer but with a much shorter measurement time.To design, construct and test a cryostat system for a commercial AGFM, which operates to 4.2oK.To modify the AGFM to operate at 4.2oK.with a noise-base of 2x10-8 emm.To undertake a proving study on tunnelling effects in particulate solids.To study Interaction Effects at Low Temperatures in Very Dilute Granular Systems.To measure Barkhausen phenomena in granular solids.
