Summary on Grant Application Form
The hydrogen uptake by certain metals and alloys will be examined using a novel combination of optical, electrochemical and analytical techniques. The experiments will cover the uptake of hydrogen under a variety of loading conditions (electrochemical, pressure) as well as encompassing surface preparation procedures to enhance the formation of a high concentration of H-atoms on the metal surface. A parametric model will be developed to relate these fundamental investigations to the characterisation of hydrogen-storage materials.
