Principle Objective: To explore novel technologies appropriate for digital personal video, such as might be applied to video telephony and conferencing, in collaboration with the industrial partners.Other Objectives: 1) To develop and evaluate fractal and DCT block coders, and apply them to rate buffered video.2) To evaluate 3D transform coders as an alternative to motion prediction.3) To investigate a hybrid of 1) and 2) as a tecnology for medium (VHS) quality video services.4) To investigate intelligent use of variable bandwidth and blocking priority.5) To contribute source coding and decoding molecules to a PC based personal video solution.
