Summary on Grant Application Form
Clinical analysis of gait is currently used by surgeons for planning of corrective surgery and by researchers for bio-mechanical analysis. It is based on models which derive the kinematics of lower limb segments from the video measurement and 3D photogrammetric reconstruction of the trajectories of spot-markers fixed to the skin. The aim of this project is to explore the replacement of marker-based sensing with contour tracking. The proposed programme of work will investigate the trade-off between linear, image-based and non-linear, object-based models for contour models of non-rigid motion. Experimental vision software will be developed to test the ideas developed. Their practical value will be assessed by clinical users.
