Summary on Grant Application Form
The crystal structures of a wide range of compounds of biological and materials interest and importance will be determined from data measured on the new X-ray diffractometer. The facility will then underpin research in a number of important areas including: (1) a huge program in synthesis, both method and target orientated, (2) ionophore systems - mechanisms of metal sequestration and transport, and its utilisation; (3) nucleic acid chemistry; (4) biorganic chemistry; (5) natural product and separation chemistry; (6) organometallic, co-ordination, and bioinorganic chemistry; (7) medicinal and pharmaceuticals sciences; (8) supramolecular chemistry, and studies of the covalent bond; (9) studies of microporous materials.
