This application seeks to update the console of a WM 200B spectrometer, which is over 10 years old, and subject to increasingly frequent breakdowns. The console is link to a wide bore magnet which allows in situ high pressure multinuclear NMR studies on homo- and hetero-geneous catalysts, which are currently under investigation, include Rh/pyridine catalysts for the reductive coupling of aldehydes, and other metal catalysts involved in a variety of organic transformations e.g. selective hydrogenations, hydroformylations, carbonylations and heterogeneous platinum/ alkaloid catalysts for the enantioselective hydrogenation of a-ketoesters.In addition, the acquisition of a modern console/probe will allow the structural characterisation, ligand (H, CO)/metal fluxionality of transition metal (particularly Rh) carbonyl clusters to be carried out more easily using modern NMR techniques.
