Summary on Grant Application Form
Set up controlled laboratory to HSE standards for welding & X-ray equipment (equivalent to ANSI 43.2). Install & commission equipment for: FE analysis; Modal analysis; Welding; Vibration; Stress management. VSR: Develop predictive mathematical model for test specimens & establish controlling VSR parameters. Develop VSR validation technique for real structures. Apply FE model to VSR analysis of six industrial structures, assess residual stress & natural frequency changes. Update validation technique, consult with industrialists and publish results. VWC: Assessment (distortion and residual stress) of non-vibrated weldments. Assessment of rigid body motion on weldments. Assessment of flexural motion on weldments. Construction of rig assessment of vibrating V-welded joints. Assessment of weld head vibration. Metallographical and mechanical testing. Assessment of VWC on simple structures. Dissemination of results.
