Summary on Grant Application Form
The industrial collaborators have been developing optimisation methods for various applications in decision support for a number of years. They have used a number of the techniques from the literature, and investigated the execution on a distributed architecture (network of workstations). The task is to support the collaborators in their specialist experiments in the application domain. There are two specific aspects of this. Firstly they need to investigate the whole range of techniques, and hybrids of these techniques, based largely on the modules already written. We will establish a generic framework and specialise it using these components with the minimum re-engineering, together with new components as required, to provide a system which generates the complete applications for experiment. Secondly, we will provide these facilities within an integrated environment which will allow the exploitation and experimentation with distribution strategies at the highest possible level. Some re-engineering of the modules will also be required for this phase.
