Current visualisation systems like AVS and Explorer are described as application builders. Users combine modules provided by the system together into a network and in doing so construct the required application with an emphasis on visualisation.This case requests funds to develop a set of tools which together would represent a comprehensive environment for the development of parallel visualisation modules. The tools, consisting of and automatic parallel module generator, a dataflow network editor for building parallel visualisation modules and a development environment for computational steering, will be portable between networks of workstation and MMP systems and will be available for both virtual shared memory and distributed memory (message passing) parallel machines.For this work a number of industrial partners have been approached. Meiko Ltd., a UK developer of parallel computers and AVS Inc., the developer of the current market leading visualisation system will act as formal collaborators.
