|
Database systems are an ideal application for parallel processing platforms. However, the task of migrating database applications from single processing systems to parallel processing platforms is a non-trivial one. To assist users in this process, it is proposed to investigate and develop an integrated set of portable software tools. These can be used to determine how best to distribute the user's data across the storage elements of such a system (data placement), what the best configuration is to meet the user's needs (application sizing) and how to adjust the data to improve the performance once the system is running (capacity planning).
