Summary on Grant Application Form
We will develop a range of enzyme based devices responsive to a variety of enzyme substrates. These will be based on the immobilisation of suitable redox enzymes on the surface of a thin conducting polymer film deposited across the gap between two electrodes. We will study the use of various polymers, immobilisation methods and techniques to mediate charge transfer between the enzyme and the polymer. We will model the responses of these devices and study the effects of variation in geometry and enzyme loading on he response. We will investigate their use on microsensors for the detection of low levels of the enzyme substrate.
