Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposed research aim is to produce a new class of high-speed servo-pneumatic actuator system which offers a high performance, cost effective alternative to their electric servo-drive counterparts in certain application areas. This will be realised by the innovative integration of state-of-the-art knowledge in the modelling and control of servo pneumatic systems, advanced control techniques, enhancements in actuator/valve/sensor technology and improved motion control platforms. The research will focus on:- a framework to support modelling and simulation for pneumatic system design - design of control algorithms and structures for high speed operation of the pneumatic drive (e.g. profile design, tuning strategies, etc.)- design of high performance actuation components- evaluation of the actuation system in a representative application.
