Summary on Grant Application Form
The object of this proposal is to develop a new UK chamber for surface x-ray diffraction (SXRD). This new ultra-high vacuum facility will be fully equipped with the usual range of surface analysis techniques for in-situ characterisation. The chamber will be used on station 9.4 at the SRS and could be transferred to a beamline at any new synchrotron source. Several other groups within the UK have expressed interest in future use of the SXRD technique and sent letters of support. The scientific case is based on two flagship project areas:1. Complex surface structures: chalcogens on transition metals2. Oxide surfaces: the structure of the metal/metal oxide interfaceIt is proposed to carry out two experiments in each area over the period of the grant.
