Summary on Grant Application Form
To address the problem of in situ chemical analysis of molecular adsorbates and complex molecular systems directly from their native surroundings. The technique of L2TOFMS will be developed for ultratrace analysis with high spatial resolution (< 40 m). 2-D mapping experiments will also be carried out by employing a precision motor driven sample manipulator. Research will focus on applications in environmental, forensic and surface science:1.Screening of environmental samples (eg soil, sediment and aerosol particulates for priority pollutants.2. Detection of proteins, polymers, dyestuffs and heterogeneous staining agents on analytically problematic substrates (eg polymer fibres, fabric, zeolite particulates).3. Characterisation of coatings and particulates.
