Summary on Grant Application Form
Electronic and magnetic interactions in inorganic mixed-valence materials will be studied by the following methods: neutron scattering and esr to determine the extend of spin delocalisation in materials containing linked iron (III)-(II) or manganese(III)-(II) centres; Mossbauer, nmr and quasielastic neutron scattering to determine rates of eletron transfer; magnetic susceptibility and neutron scattering to determine long- and short-range magnetic coupling. Electrochemical methods will be used to generate new mixed-valence materials including electron-transfer polymers for use as sensors.
