Summary on Grant Application Form
This research proposal seeks to exploit the redox chemistry exhibited by nonisothermal glow discharges at metal centres. A detailed investigation of the plasma assisted decomposition of organometallic precursors supported on microporous membranes will be undertaken. Firstly, the plasma induced oxidation/reduction behaviour of supported platinum group metallic species will be studied using a variety of surface characterisation methods, which will include XPS, ATR-FTIR, AFM, STM, and SEM. This methodology will then be extended to Pd-Ag binary alloys. Finally, the resultant catalyst-membrane structures will be screened for gas separation and catalytic activity.
