Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposed research is a fundamental study of the dynamics of large bubbles, and the entrainment of gas behind such bubbles, in a variety of downflowing liquids, including both Newtonian and non-Newtonian. Thee study is of importance generally in two-phase flows in vertical pipes. Following an experimental and theoretical analysis, aspects of scale-up will be investigated. The effect of the presence of large bubbles on the dynamics and operating characteristics of airlift loop reactors will be studied.
