i) To determine the nature of the transport and carrier leakage processes in (AlGa)InP quantum well lasers using optical techniques on special window structures;ii) To study the dynamical response of the charge distribution using time resolved optical measurements;iii) To use this understanding to interpret modulation response data obtained at GMMT Caswell, and to design structures optimised for high modulation speed.
