With the advent of the European synchrotron and the next generation of x-ray sources, relativistic spectroscopies are set to become standard tools for probing magnetic materials. I propose to develop the theory of such spectroscopies. The project is based on the first principle multiple scattering approach to the theory which shows how transition rates can be written in terms of the single particle Greens function and single site matrix elements. In particular I propose to develop the theory of, and program up, three spectroscopies, Compton Scattering, Auger Spectroscopy and electron scattering. Each of these has the potential to yield new information about the nature of metallic magnetism.
