Summary on Grant Application Form
A three phase programme directed at the catalytic asymmetric synthesis of chiral-at-metal organometallics is described. In phase 1 prochiral titanocene dichlorides will be reacted first with chiral Lewis acids the with nucleophilies. The asymmetric induction will be measured. In phase 2 the successful chiral Lewis acids will be used with a range of other metallocene derivatives. The potential of the products will be assessed using two bench mark reactions, polymerisation of polypropylene and asymmetric reduction of imines. In phase 3 the introduction of silylated and stannylated nucleophiles will be expoilted to realise the goal of catalytic asymmetric synthesis of potentially important asymmetric catalysts.
