(1) To investigate and establish techniques for writing (a) long and (b) complex gratings by UV exposure of photosensitive optical fibres and planar waveguides using both free-space holography and phase mask methods.(2) To characterise the gratings produced by the techniques established in (1) for advanced linear and nonlinear applications.
