Summary on Grant Application Form
This project is an application of management research methods to the subject area of IT in construction. It will be carried out by conducting case study investigations of leading construction companies in the UK and elsewhere. The case studies will investigate how IT is managed within the companies and will evaluate the extent to which transfer of project information is managed by IT. The theories of strategic management of IT that have developed within other sectors will be tested for their suitability to construction and through this testing an understanding will develop of how best to: plan for a strategy, allow a strategy to emerge, deal with applications and human issues and encourage business benefits to result from IT investment in the construction companies. This understanding will be documented as a business and information planning methodology for UK construction companies.
