Summary on Grant Application Form
Molecular structures of inorganic compounds in the gas phase will be determined by the combined use of electron diffraction data, spectroscopic data and high level ab initio calculations. The aim is to improve the reliability and accuracy of structural studies of small molecules, and to allow determination of larger, more complex molecules with acceptable accuracy.Particular attention will be paid to sterically crowded low-symmetry molecules, and to compounds which are precursors for the preparation of electronics materials. These will include alumosiloxanes, silicon-nitrogen compounds, copper complexes, etc. The research will include the collection and analysis of gas electron diffraction data, and quantum mechanical calculations, performed on a dedicated work-station.
