Summary on Grant Application Form
The fibre-optic transducers developed at Heriot-Watt University are now showing great promise. The objective of the research at Oxford is to calibrate and exploit them in various wind tunnels. It is the miniature nature of the traducers which makes them so important and it is intended to use them in the following ways. (1) To measure with great spatial detail the heat transfer history underneath turbulent spots in the Oxford isotropic light piston tunnel. (2) To measure heat transfer and temperature in the simulated rocket plume test facility. (3) To exploit the pressure measuring capability in many wind tunnels at Oxford.A dedicated facility may be necessary to calibrate certain properties of the fibre-optic temperature measuring capability.
