This application is for pump-priming funds to enable the investigation of a novel approach to vaccine design. This approach is based on the premise that immunogenicity of synthetic antigens can be enhanced if epitopes are hidden from circulating elements of the immune system. We seek to achieve this by preparing subunit vaccine formulations in which the components form aggregates (e.g. micellar aggregates) with dimensions between 8 nm and 80 nm. The key nananotechnological challenge is the design and achievement of such nanoparticles which are stable over wide ranges of pH, and ionic strength of the surrounding medium.
