Summary on Grant Application Form
11kV overhead line insulating supports conventionally consist of a wooden pole to the top of which are attached porcelain insulators mounted on a steel cross arm. Modern glass reinforced thermosetting resins offer a means of supporting and insulating the lines using a single material. In the proposed work information relating to the tracking resistance, breakdown voltage and field induced water absorption properties of glass reinforced polyester are combined with parameters describing its dynamic and steady state mechanical properties to establish basic designs for single material, light-weight 11kV overhead line insulating support structures.\
