Summary on Grant Application Form
Experiments will be performed with large arrays of escape-suppressed Ge detectors in order to study yrast and near-yrast decay sequences in nuclei. Investigations of nuclear structure at high angular momentum will be undertaken and, for example, spectroscopy of the unpaired regime at high spin and searches for superdeformed and hyperdeformed nuclear shapes will form part of the programme of study. Electromagnetic decay properties of states of high angular momentum in odd-Z and odd-odd rare earth nuclei will be investigated. In the second year of the grant period it is anticipated that experiments at radioactive beam accelerators, such as that at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, will be undertaken to probe the structure of proton-rich nuclei.
