Summary on Grant Application Form
The study of superdeformed states in nuclei is one of the most powerful methods of examining detailed properties of the nucleus at the extremes of angular momentum and deformation. It is the aim of the proposed programme to continue and extend the current studies of superdeformed states by using the additional power of the EUROGAM Phase II spectrometer at CRN Strasbourg. The research project is part of a continuing collaboration between a number of UK universities. The research work will be based on new results recently obtained at the EUROGAM Phase I array at EPSRC Daresbury Laboratory which have shed new light on many aspects of the superdeformed phase in nuclei, including new information on the individual neutron and proton levels and how they interact.
