The immediate objective is to develop parallel algorithms for implementation on SIMD and MIMD machines to be used for calculating the response of floating production systems to environmental loading at both high and low frequency. The software will be used to carry out highly computational intensive calculations, not normally accessible to conventional machines, for the purpose of assessing the reliability of predictions obtained using traditional approaches. The work will proceed in two strands. The first concerns he development of fast efficient Green functions, with particular reference to their implementation within a parallel context as follows: (a) Familiarisation with Green function formulation and evaluation studies of zero speed Green function. (b) Development of techniques for removal of singularities in second derivitives in forward speed Green function. (c) Testing of forward speed Green function and ergonomic studies. The second strand involves the implementation of the Green functions using parallel computers as follows: (a) Familiarisation with parallel processing. (b) Developing matrix formulation and solver for zero speed problem. (c) Implementation of zero speed Green functions. (d) Testing and validating parallel algorithms. (e) Case study and software manuals.
