The development of methodology for the total synthesis of medium ring lactones and ethers with a view to attaining the following objectives:1. Completion of the first total synthesis of the halogenated ether marine natural products brasilenyne and obtusenyne.2. The total synthesis of the antitumour 8-membered lactones, octalactins A and B.3. A general synthesis of the cladiellin and eunicellin family of oxacycles.
