The project is to perform calculations on the properties of ultra thin magnetic films taking particular account of the dipolar interaction and to compare the results with experiments which are currently underway in Europe.The dipolar interaction is a very major perturbation of ultra thin magnetic films. The nature of the phase transition is changed radically. We shall investigate the possibility that there is no thermodynamic phase transition but rather a freezing into a random domain structure. Other possibilities of there being a smectic type transition will also be investigated. The method which will be used is thermodynamic perturbation theory. A scaling theory will be constructed.The dynamics of the hysterisis behaviour will also be investigated. This will take into account the fact that the domain walls are rough in two dimensions.
