A number of novel wing planforms will be fabricated using a foam/composite technique for testing in the University of Bath low speed wind tunnel. The wing planforms represent a family of shapes which may be candidates for future aircraft configurations and are defined to exhibit low radar observability rather than efficient aerodynamic performance. Both time-averaged and time-dependant data at conditions likely to exhibit wing buffer will be obtained. The experimental results will be used to authenticate the use of a combination of time averaged prediction of vortex trajectory(s) and size(s) coupled with empirical prediction of the characteristic vortex frequency and amplitude to demonstrate the potential for the development of an efficient design process to minimise buffet loads. The requirement for low observable characteristics produces flow fields with multiple vortex tracks of similar vortex strength which are liable to non-linear response to angle of attack and provide a significant challenge to a single block Navier-Stokes code.
