Summary on Grant Application Form
A second cold neutron guide will be extracted from the ISIS pulsed neutron source providing a high resolution, high intensity beam of long wavelength neutrons. This beam will be used to explore the potential of such neutron beams, specifically with respect to:i) long wavelength diffraction, unpolarised and polarised, for the structural studies of organic, biochemical, food-related pharmaceutical and magnetic materials;ii) simultaneous diffraction and spectroscopic studies of uniquely prepared samples in beam eg intercalates, clathrates and zeolites, and the observation of chemical reactions in progress;iii) the development of a full polarisation analysis option will follow from collaborative international funding in stage III of the project.
