Summary on Grant Application Form
Stringent requirements for fire safety of buildings and structures stimulates active investigations of fire characteristics, smoke and combustions products movement, and interaction of extinguishing substances with combustion products and fire. This project aims to investigate two-phase flows accompanying fires in enclosures. Dispersed phase (soot, ash, aerosols, droplets), in the fire process can be formed for many reasons (eg interaction of sprinkler jets and extinguisher powders with combustion products, production of aerosols in chemical reactions, etc) and have significant effects on fire spread and combustion. It is proposed to develop a model of fire with two-phase effects, based on the applicant's own core numerical equation solver for gaseous phase and previously developed macroparticles technique for dispersed phase. After testing and verification, the model and computer code will be used to study two-phase flows accompanying fires in enclosures. Calculations for fire in typical situations will allow the proposal of anti-fire recommendations.
