To apply the theory of finite integer rings to the design and implementation of(i) non-binary sequences for CDMA and preamble synchronisation;(ii) non-binary trellis coded modulation schemes for block and convolutional codes(iii) a combined frame/symbol synchronisation schemeProgress: The start of the programme has been delayed until the postdoctoral worker (Dr. P. Fan) obtained the necessary work permit; this has now been approved.This is a joint programme with the University of Lancaster and it is intended to transfer that element previously at the University of Hull to the University of Leeds.The emphasis of the Leeds programme is to apply the theory of finite integer rings to sequence design and the design of sets of sequences suitable for CDMA applications; such sequences will be multi-level and compatible with non-binary modulation formats. Consideration will also be given to the design of sequences and codes with useful synchronisation properties.To date, the theoretical basis of finite integer rings has been studied and initial simulation and synthesis software completed.
