Summary on Grant Application Form
The aim is to investigate the fundamental surface chemistry involved in the interaction of organometallic precursors with well defined InSb substrates. The project will specifically relate to the potential use of molecular precursors for the homoepitaxial growth of InSb. A wide range of surface sensitive techniques (HREELS, UPS, XPS, TPD) will be used to study the complex mechanisms involved in the adsorption and thermal decomposition of a number of indium and antimony based organometallic precursors. The work will be carried out on both Sb- and In- terminated (100) and (111) surfaces prepared in-situ by deposition from solid sources. The detailed information gained from this fundamental work will be used to investigate the initial stages of epitaxial growth using atomic layer epitaxy (ALE).
