Summary on Grant Application Form
The purpose of this proposal is to build and commission a UK-CRG station at the ESRF primarily devoted to magnetic and high x-ray diffraction experiments to be carried out by the UK user community. Under the CRG (Collaborating Research Group) scheme 66% of the beamtime is available to us and the remainder is to be provided for public use. Apart from the public insertion device lines, which will be under extreme competitive pressure, the CRG bending magnet station will be the brightest x-ray sources in Europe. The design phase will be substantially complete by September. The beamline comprises a collimating mirror, double crystal monochrometer and a toroidal focusing mirror feeding the x-ray beam to a 5-circle high precision diffractometer. In the subsequent 3 year period the beamline, station and instrument will be installed, commissioned and user operation will commence in the last 6-9 months.
