1.To investigate by surface Raman scattering (SERS) the interaction, with 'liquid metal' colloidal films (MELLFs), of self-assembling species such as alkane thiols or various mesogenic molecules.2.To explore the electroactive behaviour on electrodes of MELLFs made from species of the above type in order to study the influence of potential on molecular ordering or orientation.3.To study metal ion incorporation into ionophoric molecules in a MELLF medium and investigate the wider incidence of a recently discovered photo-induced demetallation reaction in MELLFs.4.The influence of method of sol preparation on metal particle size in MELLFs will be studied in the context of their behaviour as metal analogues of micelles.
