Summary on Grant Application Form
The objectives of this proposal are:i) To carry out experimental studies to visualise resin flow, resin impregnation of fibre bundles, fibre deformation and to monitor porosity under different processing conditions.ii) To develop a mechanics based model for fibre deformation taking into account fibre compressibility, resin flow and tow impregnation.iii) To develop a model for the impregnation of fibre tows and reinforcement by resin, taking into account fibre deformation and change of porosity.iv) To implement the above models into a RTM code which will be tested against experimental data. This code will also be used to construct processing windows.
