The LUCIO Project involves collaborative working between researchers from the University of Liverpool (Professor O'Connor), University College (Dr Simons), Imperial College (Dr Anastasiou) and Oxford (Dr Borthwick/ Professor Eatock-Taylor). The project aims to improve understanding of coastal processes in a range of practical situations including tides, river discharges and beach cusps. The Liverpool part of the project involves measurement of wave energy levels, turbulence and flow velocities for two situations involving a plane beach and along-shore tidal currents, and a river discharging through the beach. Bed friction measurements will be produced by the UCL shear plate while video analysis of flow patterns will use Oxford's frame grabber equipment. RAs from each university will work collaboratively in collecting the CRF data. Results will be disseminated via a technical workshop and incorporated into existing models.
