Summary on Grant Application Form
This proposal is to provide support for x-ray scattering and Raman scattering experiments on the rare earth superlattices grown by the Oxford LAMBE facility. The x-ray work will study the growth of the superlattices and by careful high resolution studies compare the results with different theoretical models of MBE growth. This will lead to a better understanding of these models and enable crystallographically improved samples to be grown. Similar experiments will be performed on the semiconductor samples grown by MOVPE techniques. The x-ray experiments will also be essential in determining the quality and structure of new classes of systems such as 4f/3d superlattices and the use of Nb spaces between the magnetic layers.
