Summary on Grant Application Form
Two issues have arisen from a previous (LINK) grant which need to be researched. One is that spectrographic imaging may provide better images of cracked road surface. If this is so then the improved images may reduce processing time enough to make real-time analysis feasible. At present we can only approach real-time scanning to reject images which do not contain cracks. The other issue is that both the spectrographic imager and the road pavement recording system recently ordered by the department of transport use line cameras. These produce continuous (pushroom) images, although the DOT system will be converted to series of four 512 x 512 pixel images. Tjhe aim is to develop modified algorithms to analyse pushbroom images directly and report on the advantages and disadvantages. The programme will consider these two issues in parallel spending about six man months on each.
