Summary on Grant Application Form
The research will investigate the performance of beam-to-column connections for frames of pultruded polymer composite sections. None tests will be conducted on a range of connecti details. The experiments will measure moment-rotation up to ultimate failure. Modes of failure will be analysed. Results from these 9, and the previous 11 tests will be used as follows:i. To determine whether current connection practice for nominally pinned construction provides adequate rotation capacity.ii. To identify any differences in joint performance when the beam is connected to either an external or an internal column.iii. To verify the proposed top flange cleat intended to provide reliable semi-rigid joint action. The research will contribute to recommendations and rules for design of connections.
