Summary on Grant Application Form
The aim of this proposal is to continue with the development of indentation - related test methods for ceramics and ultra hard materials at Exeter, by extending the understanding of surface fatigue mechanisms as measured using a recently developed 'soft' point contact cyclic loading procedure. The goals of the programme would be to improve the understanding of the interpretation of the observations made to date, extend the range of ceramic test materials, and investigate the influence of higher temperatures and aqueous/inert liquid environments.
