Summary on Grant Application Form
This collaborative research programme is designed to ensure the development of strongly active pyroelectric LB film assemblies by:i) addressing the mechanistic origin of pyroelectricity in such films,ii) synthesising & characterising the 2nd generation of exciting polysiloxane acid/amine compounds whose pyroelectric properties are expected to be superior to those already observed by the authors andiii) engineering the construction of the pyroelectric cell to optimise heat and absorption and therefore improve device sensitivity. There is growing interest amongst the thin film community in infra-red detection using pyroelectric materials and generally in silicon-containing LB films. This is an appropriate time to establish a world-lead in the filed of pyroelectric LB materials.
